Reel Action Charters

About Us

Capt. Tom and the Reel Action III operate out of the port of Rochester, NY on the south shore of Lake Ontario.  This port offers unparalleled fishing activity throughout the fishing season.  The Reel Action III begins the season targeting limit catches of brown trout as well as spring kings, cohos, rainbows, and steelhead.    Spring kings have been plentiful the past few seasons.  Although the weather may be cold (at times) the fishing is hot!

From the time the spring kings come in (around May 1) we are targeting them for the majority of the season.  Initially, this is done near shore, in 30-50 feet of water, with the fish only 10-20 feet down.  As the fish move off-shore, so do we.  When the kings aren’t cooperating, there are plenty of other options to keep the rods popping.  Whether it be rainbows, steelhead, browns, or lake trout, Rochester offers unparalleled variety and an opportunity to experience the fishing experience of a lifetime.

My goal each and every time I leave the dock is to show you, the customer the utmost fishing experience.  Not only does this mean catching fish, it also means doing whatever it takes to make the day a special one for the individuals on board.  You can trust that I will always go the extra mile to make this trip one you will never forget.  My business is based on customer satisfaction.  There is no better advertisement than someone going home and bragging to a friend about the great time they had aboard the Reel Action III.  It is my hope that each trip, whether it’s your first, or your twenty-first, you get off the boat even more excited than when you got on.

I look forward to working with you in the future.  If I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me at tom@reelaction.net.  Thanks for stopping by the web site, and I’ll see you on the water!

Spring Sportfishing:

The boat splashes down at the beginning of April in preparation for charters beginning mid-month.  April and May are spent filling the cooler with nice catches of brown trout, rainbows, steelhead, cohos, and spring king salmon.  This time of year offers rapid rod-popping action while fishing on the beach in 8-12 feet of water.  Because most species of trout and salmon are all chasing bait in the warm water, when the rod fires, you never know what’s on the other end!

Summer Fishing:
The summer is spent chasing kings as they work pods of bait off-shore.  This time of year can produce some beauties, as well as some nice consistent activity by staying on the kings, or moving to a Plan B program of summer browns, rainbows, or lakers.  Summer allows to focus on a number of species individually, whether it be kings, browns, steelhead and rainbows, or bottom-dwelling lunker lake trout.

Fall Fishing:
The fall salmon fishing outside the Genesee River is typically excellent right through October, with bonus off-shore limit catches of steelhead and rainbow trout mixed in.  Depending on what each customer wants, we are able to focus on the trophies in-shore, or consistent tail-walking action off-shore.

As you can see, there really is no bad time to fish out of Rochester aboard the Reel Action III.  Give Capt. Tom a call to discuss what time of year is best for you, and to book your dates early.

Good fishing,

Capt. Tom
